Solo Horn

Sam
is 18 years old and has been playing the Tenor Horn since the age of 6, learning at his Primary School. He joined his local community band organisation and at the age of 11 was invited to join the main Town Band after gaining the Solo Horn seat in the Youth Band. Sam currently holds the Solo Horn seat in the Town band a position he has had since he was 15. Sam completed his grade 8 when he was 14 with a 2 year delay due to Covid-19. Furthermore, he then progressed to the Solo Horn seat at the Grimethorpe North of England Youth Band, as well as helping out at contests and concerts on Solo Horn with various different bands.
This led to Sam being asked to play in a concert with The Grimethorpe Colliery Band on 29th June this year. As well as this, Sam has helped as a dep with the Stannington Band as a last minute request, a concert that was live streamed and uploaded onto YouTube. Sam has also won various awards including Best Instrumentalist in his section, which included bands 2 sections higher along with Best Tenor Horn of the day, with adult bands up to the Championship Section competing at the ODBBA Contest. With exposure gained from these events, Sam has further been asked to play a concert with The Foden's Band on 1st Horn which is also being recorded for the radio featuring their 2025 Brass In Concert set list. Sam is currently in his first year of studies at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire where he looks forward to gaining experience and expert guidance during his studying. Sam has been playing on a Mercer & Barker Mouthpiece for 3 years and is currently using the MB-3H model. Sam welcomes the opportunity given by Mercer and Barker to be recognised as a Mercer and Barker artist and Ambassador and is looking forward to upcoming events with them.
