Charlie Boax

Solo Baritone Whitburn Band

Charlie
began playing in her mum and dad’s youth band when she was 3, starting on percussion, and moving later onto a purple plastic trombone when she was 6, finally moving onto the baritone when she was 8. The move to baritone came when listening to her mum practising her own baritone and asked to try it; immediately she fell in love with it and knew it was the instrument for her. Encouragement from home was a vital part of Charlie's progress…her mother is the President of the Scottish Brass Band
Association (SBBA) and dad is the Education Officer.

Charlie won her first solo contest at age 11 becoming the West of Scotland solo champion. This was a very special achievement as it was the first contest she had ever won.

Two years ago, Charlie was asked to become a member of the number one brass band in Scotland, the Whitburn Band. As a member of the Whitburn Band she has performed at The Royal Albert Hall, London, Symphony Hall in Birmingham and In Malmo Sweden when the band represented Scotland at the European Brass Band Championships.

In May this year Charlie will represent Scotland in Stavanger, Norway as part of the European Youth Brass Band. Charlie's musical journey so far has been incredible with hopefully more to come in the future…
