Solo Euphonium with Tredegar Brass Band

Siôn began his playing in Abergynolwyn Silver band in North Wales being conducted by Aled Williams who had a huge influence on his formative years. Whilst growing up in Gwynedd, Siôn went through the Gwasaneth Cerdd Ysgolion Gwynedd a Môn (Gwynedd and Anglesey music service) where he was solo euphonium in both brass bands and symphonic wind band. He was also a member of numerous bands during these years playing with bands such as the Nationals Youth Brass Band of Wales, Beaumaris and Northop during successful times.

In 2012, Siôn moved down to Cardiff to study at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama under David and Robert Childs. He won numerous solo and ensemble competitions such as ‘Y Rhuban Glas’ (the blue ribbon) at the National Eisteddfod and the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble competitions.

From 2016 until 2022, he was the 2nd euphonium player at Cory band sitting next to his euphonium playing idol growing up, Glyn Williams. He saw a lot of success during his 6 year tenure with Cory with the 2019 Grandslam being a particular highlight (European Champions, British Open Champions, National Champions and Brass In Concert Champions). Alongside competitive success, Siôn was part of the band during tours to places such as America and South Korea, including concerts and workshops all across Europe.

At the end of 2022, Siôn moved to Tredegar to play solo euphonium. Alongside his playing, he conducts Crosskeys Silver band who have seen huge recent success by winning 6 of their last 8 competitions. He is also a music and Welsh teacher in the Newport area. Siôn fills out any other free spaces in his busy calendar with workshops and concerts as a guest player or conductor.
