Mark Bousie

Foden's Band

We are delighted to announce that Mark Bousie from Fodens is joining Mercer & Barker as a Performing Artist.

Mark was born in Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire and studied euphonium
with Steven Mead at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.

Amongst his successes as a soloist are winning the Wind Section of
the Tunbridge Wells International Young Concert Artists Competition and
being placed 2nd at the British Open Brass Solo Championships. Mark has
also been a semi-finalist in both the BBC TV and Radio 2 Young Musician
Competitions.

Mark has made solo appearances at venues such as the Purcell Room,
London; Bridgewater Hall, Manchester and in Budapest. He has also worked
in Ohio, USA on a number of occasions delivering recitals and
masterclasses at Ohio State and Capital Universities and appearing as a
soloist and clinician at the Ohio Brass Arts Festival.

Mark is currently Head of Music at Glossopdale School in North
Derbyshire. He is also the euphonium tutor for the Royal Northern
College of Music Junior School and has been the euphonium/baritone tutor
for the National Children’s Brass Band of Great Britain.

Mark has held Principal Euphonium seats with a number of leading
brass bands, including Sellers International and Fairey. He has been a
member of the euphonium section of the Fodens Brass Band since 2009.
During his time with the band, Mark has won the ‘double’ of the British
Open Brass Band Championship and National Brass Band Championship in
2012 and the National Championships again in 2018, 2021 and 2022.

Mark is also well known as a successful conductor, particularly of
youth and lower section brass bands. He won the 2009 National Youth
Brass Championship with the Sellers International Youth Band. Mark is
currently the co-Musical Director of the Fodens Youth Band.

In 2012 Mark was honoured to be awarded the prestigious Mortimer
Medal by the Worshipful Company of Musicians in recognition of services
for the teaching of young people in the brass band movement.
