Madi Rowe

E-Flat Tuba Marsden Band

Originally from Rotherham, Madi began playing the
cornet at six with Maltby Miners Welfare Training Band. At 13, she transitioned
to baritone and euphonium, playing with Thurcroft Training Band and also being
invited to join Maltby Senior Band.

At 15, she moved to South Yorkshire Police Band with her parents
and was part of the team that won the Second Section National Championships in
2019. In 2020, after a suggestion from Mark Walters, she played Eb bass for the
first time to sit alongside her dad for the regional championships. During the
pandemic, she returned to euphonium but made the full switch to bass in early
2022- though she still occasionally picks up the euphonium.

Now studying Occupational Therapy at the University of
Huddersfield, she initially joined Slaithwaite Band under the direction of
Leigh Baker, which massively boosted her confidence and led to her move to
Marsden in early 2023, where she still plays today.

As the only female bass player in the 2025 Yorkshire Championship
Section, she takes great pride in representing women in bass playing and is
passionate about inspiring more young girls to pick up a bass.
