Jonathan Lockwood Bass Trombone

Jonathan Lockwood Bass Trombone

Jonathan like his brother also grew up in the Medway Towns in Kent. But unlike the rest of his family didnt learn the trombone and he chose to play the cornet.

Jonathan has served as a Military Musician for over 20 years and joined in 2001. It was whilst on training that he switch from Cornet to the family instrument of Trombone.

In his 20 years as an Army Musician he has served in many bands from the Blues and Royals (Now the Household Cavalry Band), the Grenadier Guards and has been in the Welsh Guards band since 2016 where he now sits as principal Bass Trombone.

Jonathan has been lucky enough to have been able to perform on many big state occasions from Trooping the Colour and also the Queen's Funeral.

Jonathan says about the Beast 'I looked for many years to try and find a mouthpiece that just seems to work and has a comfortable feeling and I've finally found it. The biggest thing I noticed was how much more settled and focused my lower and higher registers were sitting, which is a must when you spend a lot of time marching over to the Palace. I, like many people were unsure at first due to Mercer and Barker being 'new on the block' but since using it for over a year now I can certainly say that I'll never use anything else for here onwards. Thanks to the M&B for all their assistance'
