We are proud to announce a new partnership with Mercer & Barker and the Five Lakes Silver Band that begins with their bass section becoming section artists! In executing FLSB’s vision for the American brass band bass sound, they build on the traditions of excellence in British brass bands while blending those qualities with the American symphonic tuba sound of the great orchestral brass sections of the US. The boys in the back highly endorse performing on matching gear to unify the sound of the section and streamline our problem solving strategy when it comes to intonation, and alternate fingerings for playability and agility. Each of the band’s basses perform on a Mercer and Barker mouthpiece that enhances and brings to life their Wessex 6/4 BBb 'Prokofiev' and Eb 'Gnagey' tubas.
The E-flat basses, Chris Jackson(principal), and Tyler Schreiber both play on the MB4W mouthpiece, finding the enhancements to the upper register and flow of the mouthpiece well suited to providing the punch clarity to the bass section. Steve Molnar(principal), and Tom Silvey both find the MB5 “Cattanach” to be well suited to their needs on BBb Bass, generating the thick warm sounds in the lower register. While Brian Gorski in his role as the band’s pedal specialist plays on the new MB7 model mouthpiece he helped develop. More to come on this mouthpiece soon!
This is the start of a great collaboration between our organizations and we are thrilled to have them join the Mercer & Barker family! We look forward to what the future will hold.
