Well, my word, the team at the Mercer & Barker family are over joyed to announce the addition of two wonderful musicians who are absolutely outstanding in their field.
Glyn William the principal Euphonium player with the Cory Band and Dean Morley (Deano) the world renowned BBb Tuba layer who now resides in Sidney Australia, please have a read of their bios below:
Glyn Williams Euphonium
Glyn Williams was born in Aberystwyth where he was introduced to music by his Uncle and enjoyed playing euphonium with Towyn Silver Royal Oakley and Menai Bridge, all local bands.
Glyn was appointed as solo euphonium with the Fodens Band in 1995 contributing to many contest victories including the Swiss Open, All England Masters, French Open, Brass in Concert, North West Area Finals more than 10 times, the titles of National & British Open Brass Band Champions of Great Britain, English National Champions and All England International Masters Champions. 2012 was the pinnacle of this contesting success when Fodens won both the Open and National Championships.
After 20 consecutive years service at Fodens Band, Glyn took the heart wrenching decision to move to South Wales and to join the Cory Band in the Summer of 2015, beginning a whole new chapter in his brass banding career. Since then Glyn has been pivotal in helping Cory to make history in an unprecedented Grand Slam year of 2016, when the Band won the European, British Open, National and Brass in Concert titles. Glyn has been awarded many best instrumentalist awards along the way, the most recent having been at the 2017 European Brass Band Championships in Ostend, Belgium. In 2019 Glyn was a part of the Cory Band as they again achieved the Grand Slam…..and added the Brass Pass UK Band of the Year title to their accolades.
He is also highly regarded as one of the Brass Band world’s up and coming young Musical Directors holding the position of Professional Conductor at the Marsden Silver Prize Band from 2004 to 2015 with great contest success, and more recently working with Lydbrook and Aldbourne Bands.

Dean Morley BBb Tuba
Dean Started playing the BBb tuba for the Morris Motors Brass Band at the age of 14, under the musical direction of Harry Mortimer. He also joined the NYBBGB gaining the position of Principal BBb tuba, playing in concerts under conductors such at Eric Ball, Major Peter Parkes, Richard Evans, Elgar Howarth, Roy Newsome, and James Watson. At 16, he joined the Desford Colliery Band, and was conducted by Howard Snell and James Watson where he was part of the magical team that won the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain four times in succession. After touring extensively throughout Europe and completing tours of the USA and the USSR playing in the Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow, he then joined Fodens Brass Band. This led to contest wins at the Swiss Open, French Open, and further Nationals success under Nick Childs. Whilst at Fodens, Dean had the privilege of being conducted by Howard Snell, James Gourlay, Phillip McCann and Bramwell Tovey. Dean was also a featured soloist on the Fodens Courtois Soloists CD.
After Fodens, Dean joined the famous Grimethorpe Colliery Band where he toured Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, and the USA. He was conducted by Professor Gary Cutt, and played in concerts to capacity audiences in iconic venues such as the Sydney Opera House and the Carnegie Hall. After a string of Brass in Concert successes, and two more Nationals wins (narrowly missing a hattrick), Dean moved to Brisbane Australia to be with his tuba playing partner Julie Woods. Once there, he played for the National Australia Brass Band conducted by Professor David King, and joined the Brisbane XLCR Brass Band where he won the Australian and New Zealand Brass Band Championships multiple times. He then moved on to play with St Mary’s Brass Band, Central Coast Brass (National Champion winners 2018), and he now resides with the Sydney City Brass who are the current National Brass Band Champions of Australia under the leadership of the highly sought-after Professor Jason Katsikaris.
